KATHY BRADSHAW
I am a Canadian encaustic artist and my landscape paintings are an emotional and spiritual response to the power of space. Expressive mark-making, colour, texture and light play a central role in my work, which is generally devoid of human presence or influence so that the viewer can solitarily embrace the power, beauty and solitude of the space before them. I am an avid hiker and love visiting Canada’s iconic sites and remote backwoods locations in order to study the landscape in its purest form. Fascinated by dramatic skies, ancient forests, glacial lakes and mountain views, I am most interested in conveying the energy and feeling within these spaces. A distinguishing feature in my contemporary encaustic work is its dance between abstraction and representation that invites viewers to savour and linger over the surface.
